THE ULTRA CRATER IS A LARGE EXPANSE UNDERNEATH A YELLOW SKY. In between thick, almost impassable jungles, craters filled with green fields and alien plants lay. What appears to be metal pipe-like roots grow out the rock of crater walls. Geysers dot this alien landscape, occasionally expelling shrieking steam.[break][break]

The world is frequented by earthquakes, causing odd red monoliths of rock to quake throughout the realm. Oddly, the Ultra Thicket possesses very fertile soil. In the distance, a large mountainous expanse can be seen, though the range does not seem too high.

An abandoned range of bunkers greets them as they trek through the expanse of the ultra crater. She swears, the place just grows stranger with each passing visit.[break][break]

“Good question..” Calla murmurs in response, expression furrowed in a look of puzzled scrutiny. Stepping toward one, her hand rests on the frame of an open doorway as she peers into the gloom. She squints, but she can’t see much of interest.[break][break]

If they had the time to inspect each one, she might have.[break][break]

“I wonder if there’s anything of use here.”[break][break]

For now, though, she gives up and wanders back toward Uriah, glance drifting beyond him to the field only barely visible. The celesteela looming throughout, though, are clear as day.[break][break]

“Maybe that?” she points.

as he talks of them, he feels something grasping at his ankles so he quickly lifts his leg up to see the LEECH SEED. he steps away from the vines and reaches for her hand.

"let's get out of here."

“Yeah,” she huffs out a laugh. “Why did you choose this place for a picnic?”[break][break]
She’s not too bothered by it, though. Surely it can’t be as bad as their first trip out there. That one was more stressful by leagues. Her head tilts at the explanation. “What happened in Mossdeep?”[break][break]
She doesn’t register the similar entrapment of her own ankles. Not until he steps away, and tries to tug her with him. When her feet don’t budge, Calla frowns. “Uriah, wai—“[break][break]
It’s a beat too late.[break][break]
Resistance makes her balance topple and her hand slips from his as she goes down front first to the ground, kicking at the vine that managed a tighter hold at her smaller ankles.[break][break]
Calla winces. “Would it kill ya to slow up?” she snaps, only to immediately frown at her own clipped words. The irritation that bubbles up is unexpected, and somewhat unnatural. As if spurred out of nowhere for no reason.[break][break]
“Sorry,” she grumbles, confused at how reluctant the apology sounds. “The fall just hurt.”[break][break]

“I’m fine, I’m fine.” She insists stubbornly as she takes his offered hand and allows him to haul her up.[break][break]
Irritation lingers, but she tries to swallow it down as she looks up at him. There’s something sullen in her eyes that goes unvoiced, because really, she knows he didn’t mean to. And she doesn’t really know why her reaction was so pronounced.[break][break]
It doesn’t make any sense.[break][break]
And she’s definitely not thinking it has anything to do with the wide, ominous moon that rises in the distance.[break][break]
When she tries to take a step, though, she winces. “It got me good.” Another wince as she lifts her weight off the tender ankle.[break][break]
A flicker of pale white movement catches her eye as she tries to juggle balance by holding his arm. With one hand she tries to point. “Look over there. A little one?” A kartana, maybe?

his attention shifts to the flicker of pale white that comes from outside, and while it should spark curiosity, movement of any kind in this realm could lead to danger.

"we should be careful."

his machamp steps out of its pokeball to lead the way.

outside, they are greeted with what appears to be both kartana and celesteela, except far smaller than the ones that loom overhead.

"...maybe they are babies?"

Her arm does slide around his shoulder and she relents her stubborn need to act alright as he hoists her up. Despite the snap of her temper, if there’s anyone apart from her brother that she trusts with her vulnerability, it’s Uriah.[break][break]
Calla’s good foot, though, barely touches the ground once he’s upright again. It’s sort of laughable, really. Would that she could be taller.[break][break]
“Agreed.” Wariness flares in her as Chad appears to play guard. With a tap of one of her own pokeballs, a much smaller mienfoo bursts free to cover their backs.[break][break]
The little ones are curious, that much is obvious. They crowd the strange humans wandering their jungles. Calla’s mood swings to the opposite end of the pendulum, and a laugh slips out.[break][break]
“They must be,” she agrees, “They’re pretty cute when they’re tiny like this.” The kartana in particular. They’re itty bitty.[break][break]
One flits up to land in her open palm, pulling another laugh from her.[break][break]
It’s a short lived intrigue—a warning cry rips through the air toward them. Followed by the slashing bursts of a sharp, gusty AIR CUTTER.

"adorable."

their carefree joy is shortlived as AIR CUTTER slices toward them, blocked by machamp's quick reactions. the attacks cut into machamp's green skin, damaging but not nearly enough to take the fighting-type out.

"no time to waste," he doesn't have a pokemon that can actually fly so this will have to do, "hop on!"

they climb onto his dodrio before darting out of there.
